I would like to share a story:
I was on my way to a clients recently to explain the details of the Reverse Mortgage Program when he called and said “Don’t bother stopping, I talked to my accountant and he said I shouldn’t even consider a reverse mortgage”. I replied that I was almost to his place and since I had driven all that way I would appreciate the opportunity to have at least 15 minutes of his time. He agreed and I was soon at his home. When we were seated he mentioned again that his accountant had advised him against considering a reverse mortgage.
I said “I don’t know how much your accountant knows about reverse mortgages, but my guess would be he doesn’t know a lot about them. Lets say he does know a lot about them which would somewhat qualify him to counsel you on the program”
Then I said “I know some things about taxes, not a whole lot, but I always review my tax forms and read up on changes happening in the newspaper. So I was wondering if you would let me do your taxes for you next year..I don’t do taxes a lot, but I have read a lot about taxes. How does that sound?”
He understood my point and after explaining the program he was able to make a "educated" decision whether or not a Reverse Mortgage was right for him.
If you ask me for a question relating to taxes – I will suggest you visit with your accountant.
If you ask me a question relating to the law – I suggest you talk to an attorney
If you ask me a question about gardening – I suggest you ask a gardner.
